The 8th Annual City of Houston Africa Day, held on Friday, May 30th, 2025 at NRG Stadium, was a vibrant and heartfelt celebration of African heritage, unity, and global influence. This year’s event paid special tribute to the late Congressman Sylvester Turner, whose visionary leadership and deep commitment to the African diaspora helped establish this annual citywide tradition.
As part of the culinary experience, Grubido’s founder led an engaging Q&A and tasting session for The Art of Fufu. Attendees sampled traditional West African fufu paired with Egusi soup, while learning about the cultural significance of the dish, how it’s made, and why it’s central to so many African dining experiences. The conversation was rich, educational, and filled with cultural pride.
In addition to The Art of Fufu, several standout African owned food businesses added depth and flavor to the day:
From the live African drumming and dynamic dance performances to art installations and cultural panels, every part of the event celebrated Africa’s enduring global influence. Taking place inside NRG Stadium, this community wide gathering uplifted African voices, artistry, and cuisine in the civic spotlight.
Africa Day 2025 was more than a celebration, it was a bold statement of identity, legacy, and cultural pride.
Congratulation!
